I was listening to Derrick Story's podcast episode about prosumer digicams and was about to blog about how I don't see them having any value when I discovered he'd blogged about the same thing: The Digital Story: Are "Prosumer" Cameras on the Way Out?
My answer is definitely yes. When you can buy a DSLR with one or two decent lenses for the same price as a prosumer digicam, the digicam is a pretty hard sell. DSLRs are just far better cameras, IMO. One of the biggest advantages of DSLRs over prosumer digicams is the instant shutter response. On every digicam I've used, you push the shutter button and wait. If whatever moment you wanted to capture was fleeting, it's gone by the time the camera actually takes a picture. Not so with DSLRs, when you push the shutter button, it fires, right then. That's huge!
I just can't see spending $700-$900 on a camera that can't take a picture instantly when I want one. And that doesn't touch on the differences in picture quality, expandability, etc.
