Alas, it's been a while since I posted. However, I've been trying new coffees, particularly those from Intelligentsia. Very good coffees. They sell a wide array of rated coffees (rated on a points scale much like wines) and they don't roast them into the ground. I'm not against a dark roast (dark brown or black beans with oil on the surface), in fact I quite like good coffee roasted that way, but it's definitely about the roast, and not so much the particulars of the bean. I'd say Intelligentsia's roast is more of a full city, darkish brown, without the surface oil. I definitely experience more of the bean characteristics with these coffees than I do with, say, Peet's, though Peet's Major Dickason's blend is definitely one of my favorites.
So far I've tried the New Guinea and the Fazenda Vista Alegre Brazil Natural Dry. I really like them both, the New Guinea is bright and grapefruity and the Fazenda is smooth, rich, and chocolaty (I'm drinking it as I write this).
